Slocumb Galleries Rebrand

Along with designer Mackayla McBrien, I worked to redesign the logo for Slocumb Galleries at East Tennessee State University.

The gallery wanted a modern design, which led us to choose the san-serif typeface. They did not want the logo to overpower or visually compete with the content the Gallery showcases, so they wanted it to be rather simple. It was also important to the gallery that their logo be something the community can relate to, so the mountain range design was used to mimic the land surrounding ETSU and Slocumb Galleries.

Old logo

New logo

We went through many logo variations during our time working with the Slocumb Galleries until we could reach a logo that was exactly what they were looking for.

One of the other design ideas we had were two rectangles in order to mirror the layout of the gallery itself, but in the end we ended up using the mountain design.
